It seems like I was just elbow-deep in Thanksgiving turkey and stuffing. How is it possible that swimsuits are already on display in the stores? At least I managed to get my Christmas tree put away before February first, barely.
Seeing the swimwear in stores would typically be a reminder to me of another year of failed New Year’s resolutions. But this year I will proudly bring one home as if it were my first-place prize.
Starting a new fitness routine the day after Christmas while everyone around me was still enjoying the festivities wasn’t something I had ever considered before getting my home gym. But it was like a new toy at Christmas that I couldn’t wait to open. The extra motivation that comes with having my own space to workout uninhibited by strangers and awkward interactions came in handy on the days I felt weak.
I finished my 30-day challenge to work out every day and stick to a strict diet. I had three goals in mind when I made this commitment to myself.
- Make going to the gym a habit.
- Not to feel like a cream puff for the New Year’s Eve party.
- To lose the holiday weight and feel comfortable in my clothes again.
I met all of my goals, but I am not sure I could have stuck to it if I had to drive to a gym. A home gym is not like the treadmill you once thought you’d use in your bedroom that now bears your drying intimates. I recommend you get rid of that before you break your toe on it in the middle of the night. I feel proud of my detached garage from Stallion Buildings. I added air conditioning, a TV and speakers that connect to my phone’s music. I found some mirrors that seem to shave off a few pounds and installed those for additional motivation.
More motivation came when my family started joining me in our gym. Seeing my kids begin to care for their bodies is worth any sacrifice I’ve made as I set the example for them. I don’t want them to grow up like I did, waiting until I’m older and my metabolism slows before learning how to live a healthy lifestyle. They’re getting a head start.
Maybe no one gets excited to start a fitness routine, but also, no one has ever slimmed down, built muscle and then regretted the effort it took. My progress has motivated me to keep going and to keep setting new goals.
Making the decision to purchase a metal building for my home gym was a commitment, but it gave me the boost I needed to get started. It has turned something I once dreaded into something I look forward to, most days anyway.
I am healthier. I am happier. I am more confident. And I am glad I didn’t wait.
Spring will be here before you know it. Don’t let the swimsuit season taunt you. If you’ve been considering a home gym, call Stallion Buildings to see how they can get you on track to reaching your fitness goals.
