When you spend your hard-earned money on a project, you want to make sure it gets done right the first time. The old adages “measure twice, cut once” and that “haste makes waste” are very true, especially when purchasing a carport or metal building. Below are some Frequently Asked Questions to help make sure your site is prepped for your next Stallion Buildings project.
What do I need to do to prepare my site?
First, you need to make sure the foundation is level. You see, a non-level foundation leads to the building not being square, thus, causing issues installing the sheet metal. All we require here at Stallion Buildings is level ground. You can use dirt, gravel, crushed asphalt, or a concrete slab as long as you make sure it’s level and not extremely sloped. We want you to get the best value for your money, and that starts with a level pad.
Do I need to have the pad finished before install?
This question comes up a lot. The answer is no as long as the area where it the building is going is level. You can always take the time to add crushed asphalt or gravel after the carport is installed.
Well, what if my pad only a few inches off?
If you are within a few inches and don’t plan to haul more material in to level out the pad, a few inches won’t be a problem. Simply inform our consultant at the time of sale and we will cut the legs onsite to make it level so it will work with the slope of your ground. This is only good if it is off by a few inches. We cannot do this if it is drastically sloped and unlevel.
Can I pour a slab?
A lot of our customers like to pour a concrete slab in preparation for their carport or metal building. We can work around that! We ask that you have a 4-inch minimum slab that is level and square. The slab will need to be the same size as the building. For example, if you purchase a 24’x30’ building or carport, then you will need a 24’X30’ slab.
Should there be clearance around the building?
When having a building or carport installed, we ask that you have at least 3 feet of clearance around the building perimeter. This way our installation crew has plenty of room to work and efficiently build your structure. If you have less than 3 feet of clearance let your consultant know so they can make sure it will work and not cause any issues or delays on your project.
Can you build over an existing object?
Yes, we have plenty of experience building over RV’s, boats, and other vehicles. We need to know about the object in advance so we can calculate the build-over fee to make it work. You can rest with peace of mind that we will get the job done and not damage your property.
